Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup tvorog (or ricotta)
  • 1 cup pitted cherries (canned or fresh)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • Sour cream, for serving
  • Honey, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar. Create a well in the center and add the egg and tvorog.
  2. Knead the mixture until it forms a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into circles using a cookie cutter.
  4. Place a small spoonful of cherries in the center of each circle and fold over to form a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges to seal.
  5. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Cook the vareniki in batches until they float to the surface, about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Remove and drain. Serve warm, drizzled with melted butter, topped with sour cream and honey.
